Arriving & saying goodbye

Try a short greeting together on the way in. A familiar goodbye phrase gives you something simple to repeat.

God morgon!: Good morning!
Vi ses i eftermiddag!: See you this afternoon!

Joining the play

Practise the question with toys first. You can take turns inviting each other to play.

Får jag vara med?: Can I join in?
Vill du leka?: Do you want to play?

Asking for help & sharing feelings

These phrases can be useful in many different situations. Let your child point or use a gesture too.

Kan du hjälpa mig?: Can you help me?
Jag är ledsen.: I’m sad.

Food & drink

Use the words at your own table so they feel familiar at preschool.

Jag är hungrig.: I’m hungry.
Jag är törstig.: I’m thirsty.

Toilet & washing hands

Try the words during your usual routines at home. Keep the practice simple and relaxed.

Jag behöver gå på toaletten.: I need to go to the toilet.
Tvätta händerna.: Wash your hands.

Getting ready to go outside

Point to the real clothes as you say the words. There is no need to learn the whole list at once.

Ta på dig jackan.: Put on your jacket.
Kan du hjälpa mig med dragkedjan?: Can you help me with the zip?

Heading home

End the day with a familiar phrase. You can return to the same little words tomorrow.

Nu ska vi gå hem.: Now we’re going home.
Vi ses imorgon!: See you tomorrow!
